Jim West’s writing on what works inside restoration companies, so you don’t have to waste time finding out.
40.8% of restoration companies name getting paid as their #1 problem. Most fixes address it too late. Here is why your AR problem is a documentation problem, and what fixing it looks like using tools available right now.
Jim WestMargins & Profitability84% of restoration companies say they're open to AI. Email writing is still the dominant use case for the third year running. Here is what separates the companies that walked through the door from the ones still standing in the entryway.
Jim WestPractical AIFull automation struggles in restoration because no two jobs follow the same path. Here is why the human-in-the-loop AI model produces better adoption, better output quality, and more sustainable ROI for restoration operations.
Jim WestPractical AILarge-loss restoration jobs go over budget before the first crew member arrives. Here is the labor-first estimating methodology that protects margin on commercial losses, from crew sizing to budget range presentation.
Jim WestMargins & ProfitabilityRestoration companies can build an AI workflow tool using Claude Projects that already knows their operation, handles scope writing, AR follow-up, triage, and billing reconciliation, without purchasing new industry software, adding another application, or training their team.
Jim WestPractical AIMost moisture maps don't fail because the readings were wrong. They fail because the documentation chain has gaps. Here's what insurance-ready moisture mapping actually requires, from baseline through dry standard verification, under IICRC S500.
Jim WestEstimating and DocumentationMost restoration companies using AI are running one tool across every workflow. If you're on Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, you're already paying for embedded AI that handles connected work better. Here's how to match the right tool to the right task.
Jim WestPractical AIAI workflow automation in restoration isn't about chatbots. It's about data moving between systems without manual re-entry. Here's the architecture, the platform paths, and why clarity has to come first.
Jim WestPractical AIMost restoration companies aren't failing at AI adoption. They're succeeding at adopting it in the wrong places. Here's what AI implementation actually looks like across a restoration operation and the sequence that determines whether it works.
Jim WestPractical AIAI tools don't sit unused because your team resists change. They sit unused because the workflows weren't ready before the tool arrived. Here's how to diagnose the real problem and fix it before your next rollout.
Jim WestWorkflow ClarityAsk most restoration owners which active jobs are profitable right now. The answer gets complicated fast. Not because they aren't paying attention. Because the systems holding that answer were never designed to give it to them.
Jim WestWorkflow ClarityBetter estimating software won't fix a documentation problem. The breakdown happens in the field, before anyone opens Xactimate. Here's where restoration companies lose money they never see and how to stop it at the source.
Jim WestEstimating and DocumentationMost restoration companies don't have a technology problem. They have a visibility problem. This guide breaks down what workflow clarity means, where workflows break down, and how to map your operation before reaching for another tool.
Jim WestWorkflow ClarityAI-ready restoration operations start with workflow clarity, not tools. This manifesto explains why most AI implementations fail, how work really breaks down inside restoration businesses, and what practical changes are actually improving margins and reducing operational friction.
